Boxes of Basics

Boxes of Basics serves the local community by addressing clothing insecurity—a critical yet often overlooked barrier to educational access, confidence, and overall well-being for children.

Each child we serve receives a carefully curated Box of Basics: a complete, seasonally appropriate wardrobe of new and like-new clothing. Every box includes 8 outfits for school and play, a dress-up or “Sunday Best” outfit, pajamas, a winter coat, new shoes, socks, underwear, books, a STEM activity, and a hygiene kit.

Every item is thoughtfully selected, wrapped, and labeled—creating a gift-like experience that preserves dignity and fosters joy.

We serve children facing a wide range of challenges, including poverty, homelessness, foster care placement, domestic instability, and crisis situations such as fires or displacement. Many of the children we support are navigating difficult transitions and lack access to even the most basic necessities. By meeting these needs, we help restore confidence, reduce stress, and allow kids to focus on being kids.

We are proud to announce our new location in Remington, VA, which will allow us to serve even more children across Fauquier County and beyond. Through our trusted referral partners—including schools, shelters, and other nonprofits—we have already helped hundreds of local children. With your support, we can reach even more.
