FamilyFutures, a Rappahannock 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is building a generation of confident, financially capable young people through an innovative financial education program currently serving students in kindergarten through 6th grade (and growing each year!) in Rappahannock County Public Schools.

In partnership with RCPS and community partner Oak View National Bank, FamilyFutures delivers engaging, age-appropriate lessons that introduce students to foundational financial concepts: earning, saving, goal-setting, delayed gratification, interest, entrepreneurship, and economic decision-making. The curriculum intentionally grows with students, nurturing strong mathematical and financial understanding in the early grades and scaffolding toward more advanced personal finance and economics competencies as they mature.

Hands-on learning is central to the program. Students apply what they learn in real time through structured activities that reinforce positive financial behaviors. As they complete lessons and demonstrate mastery, they earn deposits into custodial savings accounts opened in their names beginning in kindergarten. Each incoming kindergarten student starts with a $100 seed deposit, and students can earn up to $100 per year through successful participation. By graduation, students who fully engage in the program may accumulate up to $1,500+ to support their next steps: education, training, career pathways, or other important life goals.
