STATE CLIMB: Who We Are

Every day at State Climb, young people and adults come together to build confidence, stay active, and form meaningful relationships. As a nonprofit rock climbing gym in downtown Culpeper, Virginia, we offer a welcoming space where people of all ages can challenge themselves and grow their own community. Since becoming a nonprofit in 2021, we’ve supported more than 67,000 visits, hosted over 2,400 local children in seasonal camps, and provided consistent after-school programming for up to 70 youth each year through our teams and rec  leagues, all while maintaining our status as the top-ranked climbing gym in Virginia!

We believe these opportunities should be available to everyone. Our Pay What You Like (PWYL) model ensures cost is never a barrier, allowing families to contribute what they can without applications or proof of need. This approach builds trust, removes stigma, and keeps kids engaged. This year, during our Spring Break Camps, 40% of our tickets were sold with PWYL pricing. This means that 30 of our attendees were able to participate despite financial barriers that might typically exclude them.

Climbing offers benefits that go far beyond physical activity. It strengthens the body through movement that builds endurance, balance, and coordination, while also creating space for connection. Encouragement comes naturally here! People cheer each other on, share progress, and face challenges together. For many young people, this sense of belonging can be transformative, helping reduce stress and isolation while building confidence and social connection that carries into everyday life.

From youth programs to adult climbing opportunities, State Climb is a resource available everyday for everybody.
