At Highland, we believe that student well-being is foundational to learning.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we are proud to participate in Give Local Piedmont to support the faculty, programs, and resources that ensure every student is known, supported, and able to thrive.

From our Learning Center to our broader wellness initiatives, Highland takes a thoughtful approach to supporting students. We invest in faculty training and systems that help us recognize when a student may need additional support—academically, socially, or emotionally.

At the center of this work are our teachers. They are mentors and advocates who create classrooms where students feel safe to take risks, ask for help, and grow into themselves.

Your Gift to Highland is DOUBLED During Give Local Piedmont!

Former Lower School Director Lise Hicklin (left) and Lower School Art Teacher Alice Laimbeer (right).

In honor of one such beloved educator, current parents Nick and Amy Rhoads have generously offered to provide a $5,000 matching gift during Give Local Piedmont, in honor of Lower School art teacher Alice Laimbeer.

Between now and Give Local Piedmont on May 12, you can double your gift, thanks to the Rhoads family’s meaningful tribute. Their gift is a reflection of the lasting impact of a great teacher.

How Your Giving Makes an Impact

Your gift to the Highland Fund during Give Local Piedmont helps sustain:

  • Student wellness and mental health programming

  • Faculty training and support

  • Learning Center resources and early intervention tools

  • A school culture where every student is seen, supported, and understood

As part of our broader commitment to community well-being, Highland is also partnering with the Mental Health Association of Fauquier for an inaugural 5K on Saturday, May 9 — The Move — because supporting our students also means investing in the community around them. Over 300 people have registered for this first-year event!

Support the people and programs that make Highland’s approach to student wellness possible.
