Supporting students and teachers in Rappahannock County Public Schools with enriching programs and opportunities to succeed. 

Headwaters is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1997 by a group of parents, teachers, and community members to provide independent support for Rappahannock County Public Schools and to increase community involvement in education. Headwaters' programs serve children in Rappahannock County Public Schools, aiming to reach those with greatest need.

Headwaters Values:

Headwaters' Programs:

After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP)—ASEP provides K-7 grade students with enrichment clubs, a nutritious snack, homework tutoring, outdoor activity time, team building, and etiquette.

College & Career Access ProgramThis program offers financial support to high school students and alumni pursuing Dual Enrollment and workforce training courses (High School Plus Program), as well as scholarships for studying at a two-year college, four-year university, or trade school. 

Educational Enrichment Grants—These grants support the teachers of Rappahannock County Public Schools as they enhance instruction through innovative teaching methods, advanced technology, and equipment that may not be included in the current school budget.

READ Program—On Tuesdays and Thursdays during ASEP, READ supports students in kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade by sparking excitement about reading, assisting with sight word identification, and helping them learn about fiction and nonfiction texts. 

Headwaters offers financial support to the following initiatives:

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL)—DPIL sends books every month to children aged 0 to 5.

Farm-to-Table Program—Farm-to-Table offers education and experiences for youth in sustainable agriculture and environmental or conservation issues. 

SPARK Summer Camp—SPARK Camp collaborates with Rappahannock County Public Schools and offers summer-long, full-day enrichment programming for students in kindergarten through 6th grade and employs teen counselors in 7th through 12th grades.
