More About Us

There are many who think we are still only an emergency shelter for people who need to flee an abusive situation. However, our organization encompasses so much more! As our mission states, we do provide shelter. We provide a safe and comforting atmosphere for families who need to escape imminent danger. Our shelter advocates solely exist to help transition families into and out of the shelter; to ensure their time with us is free from danger and empowering to them. We also provide support for our clients through outlets such as one on one supportive counseling, support groups and crisis intervention support via our 24-hour Hotline. In addition, we provide advocacy services such as court accompaniment and/or assistance with obtaining and reissuing of protective orders or stay away notices. Our advocates want to make sure our clients have as much support as they can provide when the clients are faced with those circumstances of having telling their story. Our services not only cover men and women, but they are also catered to children with our Children's Program. Our Hispanic Outreach Coordinators provide those same overall services to the underserved Latino population in all the five counties that we service. For those who are interested in volunteering and/or interning with SAFE, we have a Volunteer Traning Program dedicated to train and equip our volunteers so they can effectively give back to our clients and their community. In conjunction with the Volunteer Program, our agency also offers Community Outreach through educational presentations, table set ups, awareness events for the community, etc. Each and every service we offer is FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. It is vitally important to us to ensure the community is aware of our organization and the vast amount of services we offer. We are the only program within the five counties that we serve that provides this type of shelter support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault that we offer. Domestic violence and sexual assault affects everyone, it may not be your story, but it could be the story of your family member, your friend, or even your coworker. Help us raise awareness and continue our services by investing. Ultimately, YOU can save a life.

Testimonials

We often will ask clients to tell us what they think would have happened if we did not exist. We hear things such as the following:
"I probably would have gone back to my abuser because of my kids."
"I would have had to live in my car or on the streets."
"I might have been killed."
We at times hear very difficult stories. We exist to try to turn those stories into empowerment and healing for the client.
