Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection
Dedicated to Conserving the Natural Resources and Rural Character of
Rappahannock County, Virginia
The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection (RLEP) promotes education for environmental citizenship, advocates for good community planning, and defends the quality of Rappahannock County’s environment.
RLEP’s programs include:
“The Nature of Rappahannock ~ a stroll for the soul” offers monthly walks on local properties that showcase a variety of ecosystems in the county.
“Homegrown National Park,” a national initiative, promotes the removal of invasive plants and planting of natives. For example, RLEP supports native habitat restoration in the county park and along the Sperryville network of trails.
“Saving Dark Skies” encourages installation of dark sky-compliant lighting within the county and more recently for StoneHaven, the new development at Clevenger’s Corner.
Annual scholarships for Rappahannock County students who demonstrate an interest in a career or advanced study related to environmental protection.
Nature Camp scholarships for Rappahannock County youth.
Twice yearly trash cleanups along Rt. 211.
As of February 1, 2023, Rappahannock Friends and Lovers of Our Watersheds (RappFLOW) joined RLEP to create a single organization. RappFLOW’s focus on water quality and education programs at county schools and other venues will increase our organizational efficiency and provide more opportunities to conserve and protect all of Rappahannock County’s natural resources. More information to come on new RLEP programs resulting from the merger with RappFLOW!
